The Itinerary
Our retreat kicks off in Delhi and to off start our creative program we’ll travel to the Lakshmi Narayan temple and to the National Craft Museum, a treasure trove of design inspiration.
Heading out of Delhi, we’ll make our way to Jaipur in Rajasthan via the impressive Amber Fort, an opulent palace and seat of regional power.
In Jaipur we’ll visit Sanganer, a historic town and suburb to the south of the city, famous for the beautiful intricate Sanganeri hand-block prints on textiles and handmade paper. This vibrant artisan hub has many workshops where we can view hand-block carving and printing, so much to be inspired by.
A few months before our retreat, you'll receive a recorded video lesson where I will demonstrate different options for your to create your very own designs to be used for prints and patterns. The designs will be carved in wood by artisans in India, to then be used by us in the block printing workshop and other paper and textile based projects whilst on the retreat.
On day five we'll be in Puskar, a relaxed village and Holy Town for the Hindu religion. Whilst there, we'll be block printing designs before returning to Jaipur.
Bagru is a hub of indigo workshops where we will explore the ancient craft of mud printing and indigo dying on day seven. We'll be creating repeat patterns to be in blue and white to be embellished with stitching and embroidery if you choose to.
Agra is where we will head to on day eight as we follow the famous Golden Triangle route. We'll be continuing to work on our creations in the peaceful garden of our hotel.
The famous Taj Mahal, an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river, is where we will be early in the morning before our visit to the Little Taj, the tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah that covered in exquisite pattern work and considered the inspiration for the Taj.
For the final leg of our journey we'll travel back to Delhi for out final celebratory dinner marking the end of our adventure.
This is going to be an unforgettable trip, somewhat more 'off the beaten track' than my previous retreat venues, it will be inspiring and full on and I can't wait to experience it with you.
